In this short-course, the fundamental knowledge necessary for the correct use of rheology as a tool in optimizing the formulation of products and industrial processes is covered. Specifically, this module’s syllabus includes:

• Basic types of flow
• Perfectly viscous fluid and perfectly elastic solid
• Generalized Newtonian Fluid
• Viscosity as a function of shear rate and yield strength – rheological behavior and its connection with microscopic aspects
• Viscosity as a function of time – Thixotropy and irreversibilities
• Transient experiments and their material functions
• Viscoelasticity, mechanical analogues and their material functions
• SAOS, LAOS and QL-LAOS
